What is Systemic Psychology?

  • You are not alone! We look at patients in the context of their relationships with family and friends, unlike traditional psychology, which sees them as isolated individuals with issues. Systemic Psychology or systems-based psychology, considers how our actions and emotions are influenced by others and how we influence them.

  • A systems-based approach focuses on how relationships work and identifying patterns. This allows us to tackle problems by uncovering hidden dynamics or patterns responsible for individual or relationship issues.

  • A systems-based approach recognizes and prioritizes how culture and society affect individuals and families. Therapists use this understanding to provide more culturally sensitive and inclusive care to diverse populations

  • Systemic interventions focus on changing relationship patterns to help patients improve personally and in their relationships.

  • By identifying and addressing problematic patterns, systems-based psychology helps prevent the “building and collecting” of problems, which helps us sustain our gains and “get ahead of the problem”.

  • Systems-based interventions aim to create lasting change by addressing relationship patterns. Instead of just treating symptoms, systemic psychology focuses on transforming relationships for long-term well-being.

  • There is substantial empirical evidence supporting the effectiveness of systemic therapy for psychological and relational problems. Research studies have demonstrated its success in improving individual and family functioning, resolving conflicts, and promoting positive relational outcomes.
